Tales of Bunjitsu Bunny
By John Himmelman
If there’s one fictional character I’d love to emulate, it would be Isabel. Her quiet strength, unwavering determination, and- most impressively- her presence of mind and empathy are truly remarkable. And let’s not forget, she is the best Bunjitsu Bunny in the world and could easily kick one out of the park (not that she necessarily would).
This is a wonderful read for young readers, filled with small life lessons that never come across as preachy or out of reach. Each story is presented in a way that feels relatable and grounded. It’s a great pick for early readers, though younger children will also enjoy exploring the stories with an adult to help unpack the messages.
Read it for the Zen, for conflict resolution, self-awareness, and clever problem-solving. It’s impressive how much wisdom is tucked into such a slim book- there’s truly nothing not to love. We’ve read two others in the series, and they’re just as delightful. My personal favourite? The hide-and-seek story!
The illustrations are simple line sketches with a pop of color, very effective, very Zen!
Ideal for ages 6+, but I’d definitely recommend reading it together and having lots of conversations along the way.
